MUSIC,
FROM BYZANTIUM TO HELLENISM

GREEK BYZANTINE CHOIR

4/2/2010

MEGARON, THE ATHENS CONCERT HALL, "CHRISTOS LAMBRAKIS" HALL

In the presence of His All Holiness the Ecumenical Patriarch Vartholomaios II, escorted by an entourage of 15 Metropolitans from Europe and the USA; His Beatitude the Archbishop of the Orthodox Church of Greece Hieronymos; foreign Diplomats and dignitaries; and an audience of 1.500 persons, the Greek Byzantine Choir under the direction of Lykourgos Angelopoulos performed the world premiere of the "Vespers for the Protection of the Environment" written by Gerassimos Mikrayannanitis Monk (†) and thereafter presenting a homonymous CD publication.

This musical event was the official public manifestation of the program "MAN AND HIS ENVIRONMENT THROUGH THE ARTS" which aims to create public awareness in significant and crucial issues and matters which are related to and influence the quality of the environment in which we live and how it affects the body, soul and mental states.
Making the most of a series of works in an international field which are related to culture and the arts and having as a object the public benefit, the program attached importance to the sensitivity and feelings of the artists who more than any others listen very intensely and express in various ways today's problems of the environment.
